Three new aesthetic treatments to lift, smooth and thicken without a scalpel

Lifting, smoothing, thickening. non-invasive and targeted techniques are on the rise. Stay up to date on these latest innovations and tools that are creating buzz.

Increase brightness

With the Hollywood crust

What is this ? Superficial peeling performed using a carbon solution and Q-Switched pigment laser. Launched almost twenty years ago under the name “carbon shell”, it reappears today in an optimized version.

Is it used? The Hollywood Spectra laser used for this also has the feature of heating the skin. It also stimulates collagen synthesis to tone the skin and tighten pores. It will even kill the Cutibacterium acnes bacteria responsible for acne.

Who is it for? “All skin types, all ages, all year round, to give yourself a little glow and even skin tone. A kind of “lunch” peeling 4.0, in a way. The treatment is also recommended for skin that does not tolerate AHA peeling,” explains Dr: Veronique Gasia, dermatologist.

How is it going? The eyes are protected by glasses. The face is cleaned, then the doctor applies carbon solution with a brush and makes the first pass with his laser. By heating the skin, the pores open, the solution penetrates. The laser light is then immediately absorbed by the carbon particles that are sprayed, causing the surface layers of the skin to exfoliate. “There is nothing painful in all that, be sure,” says the specialist. Two or three passes are required to completely remove the solution from the face. The last phase of “warming up” again stimulates the regeneration of the tissue, then the treatment ends with the application of a healing cream. The session lasts approximately 30 minutes. Give 3 divided doses 2 or 3 weeks apart.

And then? Slight redness is possible. They fade quickly. The complexion immediately becomes brighter and the skin softer. The effect on pores, pimples and skin tone begins to be visible after two weeks and increases with each session.

Is it expensive? Between €150 and €180 per session.

Renovate from top to bottom

By radio frequency microneedling

What is this ? New radio frequency technology (Morpheus 8 from InMode, Potenza from Cynosure, Infini from Lutronic, 3 Deep Pro from EndyMed…) that combines heat and needles. It consists of micro-perforations at a certain depth of the skin to stimulate collagen synthesis, reshape the dermis and provide a beautiful tensor effect. It’s a bit like the new fractional C02 laser with softer suites but more sessions.

Is it used? Many things! At a depth of 0.5 mm, the needles act on the superficial layer of the skin, affecting the skin texture (facial glow, skin texture, enlarged pores…). “Between 1 and 2.5 mm, they penetrate the dermis, burn the old collagen and the cells rebuild it,” explains dermatologist Isabel Rousseau. Then they affect wrinkles (wrinkled cheeks, upper lip bar code, etc.), sagging of the face, neck and décolleté, acne scars, fine white stretch marks, etc. (Morpheus 8) even up to 4 mm, targeting the fat layer, to treat a double chin or slightly thick jowls.

Who is it for? Patients in their 30s to 40s who want to improve skin quality, or those in their early fifties looking for a light lifting effect. The treatment can be performed in case of all skin colors.

How is it going? An hour before the session, it is recommended to apply an anesthetic cream to the face under a plastic film. Once there, the doctor selects the treatment tip (more or less covered with needles) and the depth at which he wishes to work, then makes several passes over the selected area. The treatment lasts about 30 minutes.

And then? Consequences vary depending on the depth of the action. most commonly redness and mild swelling lasting 24 to 48 hours. Until the next day, it is recommended to avoid any make-up and apply a healing cream and sunscreen several times a day during the treatment. Schedule 3 sessions over a month or two, then service once or twice a year. The effect on the skin’s shine and texture is visible from the first month, and on sagging skin – after 2 or 3 months.

Is it expensive? From €400 to €600 per session depending on the area treated.

Treat yourself to the tensor effect

With collagen boosters

What is this ? Injectable products based on microspheres of polylactic acid (Sculptra) or calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse) or polycaprolactone (Ellansé) delivered by an aqueous gel that will stimulate the skin’s ability to produce its own collagen for thicker, more toned, firmer tissue. This gel wears off in a few days (except in Allergan’s new Harmonyca product, where it’s replaced with hyaluronic acid to provide a plumping effect) until neocollagen takes over and comes in to replenish the skin after three to four months.

Is it used? To rejuvenate faces naturally without changing features. “No volumetric effect, the skin is thickened, with a beautiful tensor effect,” notes Dr: Isabel Rousseau.

Who is it for? A patient aged 35 to 55 is afraid of appearing with a swollen or extremely frozen face.

How is it going? On a cleaned and disinfected face, the doctor injects the product into the fatty layer, at the level of the areas that need to be restored: cheeks, jaw line (known as “jaw line”), neck, décolleté. The treatment lasts about 30 minutes.

And then? Redness and minor bruising are possible, as after any injection. They last 4 or 5 days. As it breaks down, the products in the microspheres will activate chemical messengers and stimulate the synthesis of new collagen. The face is rejuvenated in a gentle, progressive way, with the first visible results after 3 or 4 weeks, and optimally after 3 months. Most products require a single injection. Results last 12 to 24 months, depending on which one the doctor chooses.

Is it expensive? About €800 for a full face treatment.
