NCT 127 begins tour with six members, but reinforces that the group will always have eight members, while Taeyong and Jaehyun perform military service
On January 18th and 19th, NCT 127 kicked off their fourth world tour, ‘NEO CITY – THE MOMENTUM’, with shows held at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. Although the group performed with only six members, due to the military enlistment of Taeyong and Jaehyuntheir absence was felt symbolically during the performance by fans.
Jaehyun began his mandatory military service on November 4, 2024, and Taeyong He enlisted on April 15 of the same year. Despite this, the group made a point of reinforcing the idea that, regardless of the number of members present on stage, NCT 127 will always be made up of eight members.
During the live broadcast before the show, Doyoungspoke about the importance of group unity, highlighting that the essential thing was the effort of each member, regardless of their current formation.
“It doesn’t matter if we are six, seven or eight members. The important thing is that everyone works hard in their respective positions,” he said.
Throughout the performance, the other six members made it clear that, despite the physical absence of Taeyong and Jaehyunthe bond between the members remains unchanged. At the end of the show, the members reserved an empty space on stage, symbolizing the presence of their two colleagues, a visible tribute to the idea that NCT 127 remains a group of eight, regardless of who is physically present.
The tribute to the continued presence of the two absent members was visible throughout the show, reinforcing the idea that the group remains complete, even in times of temporary change. The tour continues with scheduled international performances, and fans await the return of the two members after completing their mandatory military service.
