Gary Oldman Reveals Whether He Would Return to Play Sirius Black in the ‘Harry Potter’ Franchise

In a recent interview, Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black in the “Harry Potter” franchise, revealed whether he would play the character again in the Max series.

In an interview with IndieWire during the 2024 Emmy ceremony, the actor Gary Oldmanwho rose to prominence in the Harry Potter franchise after playing Sirius Black, revealed a certain attachment to the protagonist’s uncle after being asked if he would play the character again in Max’s series.

Even though his answer was accompanied by a “nobody contacted me”, he said that Sirius deserved more prominence in the films, in addition to adding that, probably, the cast of the new production will be “completely new”:

I love Sirius. He didn’t appear enough, he just appeared and passed through the veil (…) I would bet they’ll cast a whole new cast. Maybe in a few years, I can play Dumbledore.”

Already Daniel Radcliffewho played Harry Potter himself, said in an interview with E! News in May of this year that he has no interest in playing the wizard again. In his view, the studio wants to use a different approach, breaking away from the plot of the films:

I don’t think so. I think they (Max) very wisely want a break (from films). And I don’t know if it would work if we were part of that. I’ll be a politician about it and not deal in hypotheticals.”

Max’s new series will readapt the Harry Potter books, and the episodes will feature the author of the saga herself behind the scenes. Production is scheduled to arrive on Max in 2026.
