In recent times, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an increasingly common technology in our daily lives, making its presence felt in countless areas of everyday life, even though it is still a much discussed topic within society.
Its use has become so common that, today, there are artists made entirely by AI and computer graphics, such as naivea new virtual K-pop soloist, who made her debut this Tuesday, the 10th, with the single “Done”. Watch!
Naevis was presented through the concept of the girl group aespa, from SM Entertainment, with the character being responsible for helping the members to connect with their virtual versions, also made using computer graphics called ae, through the POS (Portal of Soul, or Portal da Alma in Portuguese), a portal that connects the Flat (where the ae live) to the real world.
Today, in addition to naivethe K-pop industry also has a number of other virtual artists, also created by technologies other than AI, and who have been winning over fans. Get to know some of them!
1. K/DA
Pioneers in the virtual idol category, K/DA is a girl group made up of four members: Ahri, Akali, Kai’Sa and Evelynnwhich receive the voices of different real artists, being them Miyeon ((G)I-DLE), Soyeon ((G)I-DLE), Jaira Burns, Wolftyla, Madison Beer and Bea Miller.
They emerged through a project created by Riot Games for the game League of Legends (LOL), debuting in 2018 with the single “POP/STARS”, with the initial intention of selling skins and special items for the game. However, their debut ended up being a bigger success than expected, causing the group to continue after the first release.
2. SUPERKIND
With a similar concept to aespa, SUPERKIND is a mixed boy group, which today has the presence of five real members (Daemon, Eugene, Geon, SiO and JDV), and two virtual (SAEJiN and Seung), created by Artificial Intelligence, which also participate in all releases of the set.
The group was launched by Deep Studio Entertainment and was initially known by the name “YOURS” in their pre-debut. However, after the departure of some trainees, the group was reformed and had their official debut on June 20, 2022 with the single “Watch Out”.
3. PLACE
Being one of the biggest hits among virtual groups today, PLAVE is a five-member boy group from the company VLAST, made up of Yejun, Noah, Bamby, Eunho and Haminwho debuted on March 12, 2023 with the single album “Asterum”.
However, unlike the cases already mentioned in this list, PLAVE members are not created by Artificial Intelligence. In fact, all their mobility is captured by motion sensor technology, capable of tracking the movements and expressions of the artists behind the members’ identities.
4. MAVE:
Created by Metaverse Entertainment through Artificial Intelligence, augmented reality, 3D technology and voice synthesis, MAVE: is a virtual girl group composed of four members, SIU:, ZENA:, TYRA: and MARTY:who debuted on January 25, 2023 with the single album “PANDORA’S BOX”.
According to Sung-Ku Kangtechnology director of the agency responsible for the group, explained to El País via email that to develop the set, the company had a team of experts from different areas, including video games, entertainment and music.
5. INTERNATIONAL
Formerly known as ETERN!TY, IITERNITI is a virtual girl group made with deep learning technology from the company Pulse9, composed of 11 members (SEO, Sujin, Minji, Jaein, Hyejin, dain, Chorong, Jiwoo, Yeoreum, Sarang and Yejin) chosen by the public, and which debuted on March 22, 2021 with the single “I’m Real”.
To form the group, the companies AiA and Pulse9 developed 101 fictional faces with different characteristics, divided between intelligent, cute, innocent and sexy. The 11 favorite characters were chosen by the public through popular voting, and came to life after being animated by designers from the agency.
