The Normand cinema buffs’ venue kicks off its 50th anniversary on Friday 6th Septembere release with an audience of French stars and a Wall Street actor in the spotlight.

The president of the jury, the French actor, came to greet the American star who received an honorary award that evening. As fans chanted his name, Michael Douglas recalled that Deauville held a special place in his heart, as it was here that he met his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones in 1998. On the CID stage, the almost 80-year-old Hollywood star received his award. From the hands of Ludivine Sannier (judge of this edition), with whom he starred in the series Franklin By Kirk Ellis. Standing before him in the room were the remaining members of the jury: Martin Bourboulon, Lou Lampros, Damien Bonnard and Agathe Riedinger (A diamond in the rough) – but also the Revelation Jury chaired by Alice Belaidi. Until September 15, the festival will screen 14 films in competition and is expecting many star guests, including Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman.

Following Michael Douglas on the CID stage, the Palais des Congrès in Deauville, Barack Obama’s daughter Malia Anne was crowned with the New Generation Award. The young woman introduced The hearthis short film as a director, in which he deals with the mother-son relationship. “It is an honor to be here to present my short film to you tonight. This is a simple little parable about loss and loneliness. Sometimes I was afraid that this story would seem too small, insignificant, random, that it wouldn’t be strong enough and wouldn’t contain a social or political message. I thought about all this and realized what young people go through in their twenties. we think we know everything, but in reality we are just beginning to understand things. The most incredible of our generation. We make bold art. Young people are the basis of the changes,” said the young director. Jane unleashes the festival goers
Impressed by Kate Winslet’s performance in this film about a war photographer, festivalgoers then headed to the casino for the opening night. At the table we were able to see Camelia Jordana who was congratulated by the guests for her beautiful performance Chabadabada Bertrand Bonello, Rosalie Vardan, Nin d’Urso, Julie Gayet, but also Sayid El Alami were beside him on the stage of the Congress Palace. At the Venice Film Festival, the Bukerma brothers followed their children after the presentation of the film, where the film was in competition.
