Relive some clips from K-pop groups that mixed real scenes with sequences produced using animation resources
The K-pop universe is known for its impeccable visual productions that use a variety of resources to achieve surprising results. Among these is animation, which when mixed with live-action scenes starring the idols themselves, can grant super powers to the artists, complement the aesthetics of the MV or the plot that the clip intends to tell.
With that in mind, RECREIO has put together a list of 5 K-pop MVs that mix live-action and animation; see below:
1. TWICE – “Candy Pop”
TWICE’s second Japanese maxi single, “Candy Pop” got an MV on January 11, 2018, featuring anime-style cartoon versions of the members. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mine, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu which mix with real scenes of the group.
2. BTS feat. Lauv – “Make It Right”
BTS’s collaboration with the American singer Lauv“Make It Right” combines backstage images from the group’s shows with an animation that connects with the song’s lyrics, as it narrates the near loss of someone special.
3. Stray Kids – “Thunderous”
The mix of historical and modern aspects of Stray Kids’ “Thunderous” music video is also done through animation. The clip was released on August 23, 2021, and the track is part of the group’s second album, “NOEASY”.
4. (G)I-DLE – “Nxde”
In addition to appealing to the vintage flapper aesthetic and bringing references to the classic era of black and white cinema, in the MV for “Nxde”, by (G)I-DLE, released on October 17, 2022, there are also animations that bring the same allusions, in addition to versions of Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhuathe group members, in cartoon form.
5. NewJeans – “New Jeans”
On July 6, 2023, NewJeans released “New Jeans”, a track released in partnership with the Warner Bros. animation “The Powerpuff Girls”, and as a result, in addition to animated versions of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein in the style of Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup, the quintet also gained super powers, among them, the ability to fly.
