Silvio Santos and animated series
Since its founding, one of SBT’s mainstays has been programming dedicated to children — something strongly defended by its founder, Silvio Santos. From programs like “Bom Dia & Cia” and “Sábado Animado”, to children’s soap operas like “Carrossel”, “Chiquititas” or “Cúmplices de um Resgate”, the channel has always made a point of keeping programs made especially for little ones on its schedule.
As revealed by the column of Ricardo Feltrin on the Splash portal, from UOL, in one of the meetings with directors and other professionals from SBT, after being asked why he still insisted on showing cartoons in the morning, “losing” hours of programming, Silvio fiercely defended the presence of animations on his channel, saying:
“SBT will not stop showing cartoons, no. I don’t care if I’m losing money [nas manhãs] why [para mim] Showing cartoons is an obligation for children. SBT is not here just to make money, it has other things [envolvidas].”.
The column also points out that the businessman continued his speech by stating that “If they want to take the cartoons off the schedule after I die, feel free, but as long as I’m alive they will continue. The viewer of ‘SBT Brasil’ today was the viewer of ‘Chaves’ 20 years ago. Children are the most loyal of viewers.”
