Find out who are the new artists and Disney Cast Members who received the title of “Disney Legends” during D23 2024
D23, Disney’s main annual event in the United States, took place last weekend, from August 9 to 11, in Anaheim, California. Over the course of three days, fans were able to catch up on the latest news about the studio’s films and series, as well as participate in special panels.
The main highlight of the event was the “Disney Legends” awards ceremony, which took place on the last day and honored notable figures for their contributions to iconic Disney productions. One of the big honorees was Miley Cyrusthe eternal “Hannah Montana”, who moved the audience with a moving speech, where she says she feels proud to have played the character; check out the moment:

But besides Miley13 other artists were also honored as “Disney Legends” during the event. Harrison Fordone of the key actors who helped shape the studio with his roles in the “Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars” franchises, received a major tribute from Bob IgerCEO of The Walt Disney Company, as well as a video where he is honored by other iconic Hollywood figures, such as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
The actress Jamie Lee Curtiswho became famous in the studio for starring in the film “Freaky Friday”, was also surprised with the title of “Disney Legend”. The surprise was presented by Jodie Foster and Lindsay Lohanwhere both made a point of commenting on the actress’s incredible work on stage:
Every character she plays is different, and she always brings something unique to the role,” said Lindsay Lohan. Jodie Foster said, “She is inventive, brave and full of surprises.”
James Cameron, director of “Avatar”, was celebrated by Kate Winslet, Zoë Saldana and Arnold Schwarzeneggerwho highlighted his innovative contribution to immersive technology in the franchise. John Williamsrenowned film score composer, also received a moving tribute, including a compilation of performances of his most iconic compositions.
The director and screenwriter James L. Brooksone of those responsible for creating “The Simpsons”, was recognized by the actor Danny DeVito on stage, where he said that “Jim creates moments that reflect a unique vision of the human condition.” While Frank Ozdirector who brought the puppets of “The Muppets” and “Sesame Street” to life, became a “Disney Legend” for having created “some of the greatest characters in the history of entertainment” according to Pixar’s creative director, Pete Docter.
The actress Angela Bassetwinner of the 2023 Golden Globe for Best Actress for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, was one of the main honorees at the ceremony. She received a special tribute from the film’s director himself, Ryan Cooglerwho praised his exceptional acting work.
She’s always given these incredible, larger-than-life performances that somehow still feel incredibly real and tangential. What she does is truly a gift.”
Other Disney Cast Members, such as the Event Manager at Disney Resorts Martha Blandingthe costume designer Colleen Atwoodthe scriptwriter and artist Steve Ditkothe animator Mark Hennthe presenter Kelly Ripa and the designer Joe Rohdewere also honored as “Disney Legends”.
