Anxiety in real life

According to the psychologist Marjorie Rodrigues Wanderley (CRP-08/223050) from the Psychology Service of Hospital Pequeno Príncipe, in an interview with Recreio Magazine, emotional changes are common with the arrival of adolescence, and are often reduced by adults, who refer to them as “getting sulky, unstable or rebellious.” However, the professional highlights that the situation is much more complex than that.

“The various changes that occur in the brain, both in functioning and structure, mean that an emotional rollercoaster can happen, with new emotions emerging, more complex, and also with greater intensity. These changes are not a problem — quite the contrary, they are necessary for the formation of an adult brain, prepared for the challenges of this phase. Just as the film illustrates, new emotions can emerge, and existing ones can become different, more intense and complex — guilt, jealousy, envy, shame, romantic love and anxiety, among many others”, explains the psychologist.

Second Marjorie, “although changes in the brain are largely responsible for these new emotions, there is also the influence of several other factors — social, economic, cultural, media influence, family relationships, support network, among others. All of this influences not only the development of anxiety conditions, but also how each teenager will deal with these symptoms.”

It is worth highlighting that anxiety is a natural human emotion and is extremely healthy, being important for “self-knowledge, motivation, creativity, planning and so that we can predict, adapt or avoid potentially dangerous situations”, as explained by the psychologist at Hospital Pequeno Príncipe . Furthermore, it can also appear as a positive feeling, as when we are excited about something good that is about to happen.

Anxiety becomes a concern when the emotion starts to take on a very large proportion, disrupting our lives and becoming a pathology: anxiety disorder. When this happens, physical symptoms can be triggered, such as anxiety attacks characterized by shortness of breath, accelerated heartbeat, disorganized thinking or changes in sleeping and eating patterns, as explained Marjorie.

If you are feeling something similar, it is extremely important to carry out an evaluation with a trained health professional, who will comprehensively and individually analyze the intensity, duration, impact, physical symptoms and suffering related to these symptoms, so that the best solution can be given. diagnosis, and thus begin the best treatment for your case, which may include medication, psychotherapy, physical activities or various lifestyle changes.

Is it possible to prevent anxiety disorder?

Second Marjorie Rodrigues Wanderley, raising children from their earliest days can help prevent the possible development of anxiety symptoms in the future. The professional states that “aspects of upbringing such as calm, patience, acceptance and understanding can reduce the likelihood of these symptoms appearing later on”.

Furthermore, the psychologist highlights another aspect that can also increase the likelihood of developing these disorders: exposure to excess stimuli.

“Excessive screen time, hyper-stimulating games, short videos played quickly, and a routine full of tasks to be completed, without moments of leisure and free play, increase the likelihood of developing these disorders. Finally, parents’ own mental health can have an influence on the development of these symptoms in their children — sometimes, the best way to prevent it is for parents to seek help to deal with their anxiety symptoms, creating an environment conducive to healthy development,” ends.

“Inside Out 2” will be available in Brazilian cinemas from June 20th.
