BELIFT LAB releases video accusing NewJeans of alleged plagiarism

Through a video published on YouTube, BELIFT LAB accused ADOR of copying other k-pop groups in NewJeans content. Understand!

This Monday, the 10th, BELIFT LAB, a subsidiary company of HYBE, published a video on its official YouTube channel entitled “BELIFT LAB’s Statement In Response To Plagiarism Accusations”. in Portuguese), where he responds to accusations made by Min Hee JinCEO of ADOR, that the girl group ILLIT had copied NewJeans.

In the publication, the co-CEOs of BELIFT deny all accusations, and state that being suspected of plagiarism “is the fate of all teams that debut after a group that achieved a specific concept”, also claiming that many other formations have reached adopting the same aesthetic as NewJeans, and that accusing ILLIT of copying them would be the same as saying that they had stolen the concept from all previous groups.

Another point raised by company representatives is that the fanbase of the ADOR girl group was older people, taking into account their nostalgic concept of the 90s and 2000s, while ILLIT’s audience would be made up of teenagers.

Regarding the choreography, something much talked about on social media, the choreographer of the BELIFT LAB group argued that the movements were not a copy, pointing out that the movements that precede and follow the dance can prove this.

Finally, BELIFT justifies the similarities between ILLIT and NewJeans by pointing to a series of videos from other K-pop groups while asking the question: “If we copied NewJeans, did NewJeans copy them?”
