In moderation

Excess weight is really only due to a regular imbalance in our energy intake and expenditure. “This is when you exceed three glasses a week,” he says. In this case, sugary and/or alcoholic beverages increase our daily calorie intake, which can ultimately lead to weight gain.”

Therefore, it is important to control our cider consumption and be careful not to drink it ourselves, despite its low alcohol content (around 5%). “We also need to remember that the inhibitory nature of the beverage can modify our eating behavior,” adds Maeva Zambon. When we’re drunk, we tend to turn to snacks or richer and more processed foods, which increase our energy intake.

Raw or sweet

Which version of cider is the most beneficial? If we compare raw and mild, we notice different contents of carbohydrates and alcohol. “For 100 ml, raw cider contains 2.62 grams of carbohydrates, and milder – 5,” says the dietician nutritionist. And as a reminder, it is recommended not to exceed 30 grams of sugar per day. However, because raw cider contains more alcohol, it is higher in calories. “The higher the alcohol content of a drink, the higher its energy density,” he emphasizes. Thus, 100 ml of raw corresponds to 36 calories on average, while 100 ml of mild contains 33 calories. For the same amount, we will prefer the last option.

Aside from the risk of weight gain, alcohol consumption is dangerous to your health and should therefore be kept in moderation. It should not exceed the threshold recommended by Public Health France, i.e. 10 cups a week, a maximum of 2 cups a day and not every day.
