Discover everything wizards can learn while studying at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, from “Harry Potter”
Being one of the most popular and profitable franchises in the world, the “Harry Potter” saga, created by the authorJ.K. Rowlingpresents the adventures of Harry, a boy who discovers he is a wizard and is sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
In the books, it is explained that the renowned institution is located somewhere in Scotland, and was founded around 990 AD, by the four greatest wizards of the time: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw.
Right at the beginning of the school, classes were taught by the founders themselves, who chose their students according to what each one believed, giving rise to the famous Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.
Over the years, the institution changed, and new teachers were hired to teach classes according to disciplines, without distinction between houses. Among the best-known names who have taught at Hogwarts, we can mention Albus Dumbledore, Bartholomew Crouch Jr, Dolores Umbridge, Fílio Flitwick, Gilderoy Lockhart, Horace Slughorn, Minerva McGonagall, Neville Longbottom, Pomona Sprout, Remus Lupin, Rubeus Hagrid, Severus Snape and many others.
But, after all, do you know what subjects are taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? RECREIO tells you!
Curriculum
According to information shared by Rowling through Wizarding World (formerly Pottermore), the franchise’s official website, as soon as students enter school, all first-year students have seven mandatory subjects: Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, Astronomy, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts and History of Magic. In addition, broomstick flying lessons are also mandatory from the beginning.

Meanwhile, at the end of the second year, students also need to choose at least two more subjects for their curriculum, in addition to the mandatory subjects. They can choose from Care of Magical Creatures, Arithmancy, Study of Ancient Runes, Muggle Studies, and Divination.
Finally, those interested in Quidditch can sign up from their second year onwards, and Apparition from their sixth year onwards. More specialized classes, such as Alchemy, may be offered in the last two years, if there is enough demand to form a room.
