Anton Hurwriter and translator who worked on translating BTS’ English memoir Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record Of BTS, spoke about the influence of RM, leader of the group, in the world of literature. The translator was interviewed at the Emirates Literature Festival, by Deema Abu Nassercreator of K-Content.
In a video posted by Deema, Anton mentioned a “story of Namjoon that saved lives.” Furthermore, the writer told about his story, explaining that he found the book of Lee Seong Bok about an obscure topic and, after reading it, I wanted to work on a translation.
The translator pointed out that the subject of the book was so unknown that it was difficult to find a publisher who would allow him to translate it into English. However, he found a publisher in Seattle and did so. Coincidentally, a month before the book’s release, RM posted about it on his Instagram.
Through his influence, the singer made the book sell out. With the success of the translation, Hur signed a contract to publish a collection of books by Lee Seong BokThat Summer’s End, about which RM had published.
That’s why, Hur expressed his gratitude to RMsaying that he was “very grateful to RM for saving Korean literature,” following with, “Thank you, ARMY, you saved Korean literature!” After the repercussion of the video on X (formerly Twitter), Hur spoke about the subject again.
It’s not just Korea that has Namjoon, he actually belongs to the whole world, but I think me, Sandy Joosun Lee and Damion Searls are the only English translators who have realized this haha”, revealed Hur.
