THE RIGHT QUESTION – A duo of clementines for snack and dessert, for some this is a traditional cold season routine. But how much can we really enjoy throughout the day without affecting our health?
They sit on our tables from November to February, offering a sweet touch at the end of a meal or snack and leaving that citrusy wintery scent on our fingers. We named the clementines. Small in size, these fruits are often eaten in pairs, or even more for those inclined. Although fruits are essential for health due to their fiber and vitamin content, for example, they also contain sugar, so they should be consumed in moderation. So how many clementines can we enjoy each day?
To answer this, you need to refer to the official recommendations of 5 fruits and vegetables that should be consumed every day, that is, 2 to 3 portions of fruit during the day. “Under these conditions, and considering the small size of clementines and tangerines, we can consume up to 6 per day,” says Claire Trommenschlager, nutritionist, nutritionist and author. Packed with antioxidants and fiber
As for their sugar content, clementines average 8.6 grams per 100 grams of fruit, according to the National Food Safety Agency’s Ciqual Nutrient Composition Table (ANSES). The variety and ripeness of the fruit can affect the amount of sugar (the riper the fruit, the sweeter it is).
They contain less fiber than other fruits, but intake remains interesting and low to reach the recommended 25-30 grams per day.

That being said, the dietitian nutritionist invites us to perceive everything. “It’s always better to have one more clementine than a piece of cake that’s less nutritionally interesting.” Not forgetting that these fruits provide us with vitamin C and other antioxidants, such as carotenoids, which fight against oxidation in the body. “They also contain fiber (a significant number good digestive healtheditor’s note), adds Claire Trommenschlager; less than other fruits, but this intake remains interesting and small enough to reach the recommended 25-30 grams per day. Finally, be careful. since clementines are somewhat acidic, they can (if abused) disrupt transit and cause stomach upsets.
