After a speech by Suga in the documentary “BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star”, fans believe that a song by the rapper may have revealed BTS’ crisis in 2018
Last Wednesday, the 20th, the first two episodes of “BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star”, a documentary series that celebrates the 10-year career of the BTS. The production, which features reports from the seven members, follows all the good and bad times that the band has had to go through since their debut in 2013.
One of the most emotional moments is, certainly, the moment when the members mention the almost disbandment in 2018 due to the members’ mental health. The episode was already known to fans, given that, in the same year, Jin revealed the event during his speech at MAMA 2018 after BTS won the “Artist of the Year” award.
“It was very difficult for all of us mentally at the beginning of this year. We even talked about whether we should break up or not and thought about it a lot… but we pulled ourselves together and I’m really happy that we received such an amazing award,” Jin said in his speech. “I would like to thank our members for coming together. I am very grateful to our members and ARMY for always showing us their love and support. Thanks”.
During the documentary, Suga compares the moment as a relationship that is doomed to end, but neither side wants to give in and become the “villain” for having announced the end.
“It feels like the moment right before a couple breaks up. They both know what’s going to happen, but no one wants to be the villain. It was like escaping responsibility. At some point we had to make a choice. If any of us makes that choice, that person will be the villain. It seemed like we couldn’t move forward because of that”, said Yoongi during the second episode.
The star’s speech soon made fans realize that the same analogy used by Suga in the documentary he is present in the song “Trivia: Seesaw”, where he says:
“People can be so cunning / Even though they know they’ll get hurt if a person disappears / No one wants to be the bad guy / We keep passing the buck ambiguously / And we get so tired that we finally become parallel / But it wasn’t that kind of parallel that we wanted.”
With this, many ARMYs came to the conclusion that, in fact, “Trivia: Seesaw” is not a song about love, but rather an outburst of Suga about the situation that BTS went through in 2018.
