End of life in Windsor
After a reign of 70 years, a record for a British monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II breathed her last on September 8, 2022 at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland. His death was followed by a period of national mourning, carefully choreographed over a long period of time, with a different organization than if he had died in one of his hometowns.
The famous sovereign lived at Windsor Castle near London at the end of her life, but spent summers at Balmoral, where she rode horses and where the family took part in hunting, or even Christmas in Sandringham (East Anglia).
After a public display at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, the Queen’s coffin was flown to London by military aircraft. The casket was then put on public display in Westminster Hall, the oldest chamber of the British Parliament, until the funeral on September 19.
In the documentary, Princess Anne also recalls the moment and the strange feeling of “relief” she felt when the crown was removed from the coffin and “that responsibility passed” to the new King Charles III.
