French President Emmanuel Macron has come under fire after defending actor Gerard Depardieu.
French President Emmanuel Macron has defended actor Gerard Depardieu, who has been accused of sexual assault. The BBC reported it.
In an interview, President Macron said Depardieu was the target of “persecution” and added that France’s highest award, the Legion of Honor, should not be stripped of the actor. He also added that Depardieu is a “great actor” of whom “France is proud.”
Sandrine Rousseau, a Green party lawmaker, said the president insulted victims of sexual assault by defending the actor. He said this on French radio: “Anyone who commits corruption to a 10-year-old child cannot glorify the country.”
It should be noted that Depardieu has been accused of sexually assaulting 13 women, and a documentary released this month shows the actor flirting with a translator and making sexual comments to a ten-year-old child. The celebrity has denied any wrongdoing.
It was previously reported that Emmanuelle Debever, who first accused Gerard Depardieu of sexual assault, committed suicide.
