RECREIO, director Mini Kerti and actress Nicole Orsine from “Magic Camp for Young Wizards”, revealed the inspirations for the series
Launched exactly one month ago on Globoplay, “Acampamento de Magia Para Jovens Bruxos” stands out for being the first Brazilian spell series aimed at a teenage audience. The series follows Berenice’s vacation (Nicole Orsini), who will enjoy a Magic Camp in Ondion, where she will be able to spend time with teenage wizards and sorceresses with all types of powers, as well as discover more about herself and her abilities.
The plot derived from “DPA – Detetives do Prédio Azul” is the pioneer of this segment in the national market, although there are several productions of the genre released outside Brazilian lands, such as the “Harry Potter” franchise, for example, which follows the title wizard from the films and the adventures he faces when invited to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Thus, a doubt may become common when watching the national work and comparing it with those released internationally: after all, “Magic Camp for Young Wizards” took the famous productions from the wizarding universe present in pop culture as inspirations for the development of the series. ? The answer is simple and short: YES!
The revelation was made by the director Mini Kerti and the actress Nicole Orsinithe interpreter of the sorceress Berenice, in an exclusive interview with RECREIO.
Yes, of course, right? ‘Harry Potter’ is a witchcraft classic”, he began by responding Mini about the question that questioned whether the series drank from the source of the saga that adapts the books of J.K. Rowling. “But we work with the witchcraft and shamanic universe, because what Flávia [Flávia Lins, criadora da série] it brought that Brazilian tone, so it wouldn’t just be this European magical universe that is the ‘Harry Potter’ universe. Clearly inspired? Yes, but it is also inspired by this whole shamanic culture.”
Agreeing with Mini, Nicole highlighted the series’ achievement in bringing elements of shamanism to the screen. “They brought a product, which is a teen series of spells, which we see is very successful, like ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Wandinha’, but with the Brazilian touch of spells, because we explore the shamanism and it’s very interesting.”
It is worth explaining that shamanism is an ancestral practice still used by the indigenous people of Brazil that uses music and dance rituals combined with the use of psychoactive substances found in herbs in order to connect with the spiritual world, as defined by the Superinteressante portal.
More than that, Nicole revealed that “Harry Potter” served as an inspiration for Berenice since she appeared in DPA, in addition to saying that another production has a connection with the Globoplay plot: “Wandinha”, a series launched in 2022 by Netflix, where the eldest daughter of the Family Addams, played by Jenna Ortegahas her psychic abilities presented in the first season of the series.
The inspiration from ‘Harry Potter’ even came to the initial Berenice, to Berenice from DPA. How she does wand warfare how she holds a wand. So, when I started playing Berenice, I always looked for various references from the world of magic that we see in ‘Harry Potter’, that we saw in ‘Wandinha’, to build Berenice.
Finally, Mini he concluded by reinforcing that other famous titles also served as a basis for the production by mentioning “The Lord of the Rings”, a franchise directed by Peter Jackson based on the masterpiece of the same name by JRR Tolkienand “Maleficent”, live-action that shows the origin of the sorceress known through the fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty”, by Charles Perrault (a story that also became one of Disney’s classic animations when adapted in 1959).
