Find out why Taylor Swift distanced herself from the case involving the death of Ana Clara Benevides
Last Friday, the 17th, Ana Clara Benevides (23), passed away during the first show of Taylor Swift with The Eras Tour in Brazil, held at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro. The tragedy became one of the most talked about topics in the country, but the singer provided few statements about what happened, publishing only a statement in the stories on her Instagram profile.
What could be behind the silence of Swift after fan death? Molly McPherson, a public relations specialist, tried to understand why this happened and shared his vision about the case in a video published on TikTok. The information is from Rolling Stone Brasil.
Explaining the case
The 23-year-old girl felt ill during the singer’s performance, was taken to the hospital, but died after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest, according to the Municipal Health Department. Taylor did not provide statements to the press about the case, but, the day after the death, he published a handwritten letter on Instagram stories (where publications disappear after 24 hours) regretting what had happened, but without mentioning the name of Ana Clara Benevides.
The statement has the following translation:
I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a broken heart that I say we lost a fan tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am about this.
I have little information other than that she was incredibly beautiful and very young. I won’t be able to talk about it from the stage, because I feel overwhelmed with pain when I try to talk about it. I want to say that I now deeply feel this loss and my broken heart goes out to his family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
Even though the statement left a bitter taste in the mouths of some internet users, the distancing of Taylor of the case has a reason, as explained Molly McPhersonwho first assessed why the artist chose not to publish the statement on her feed and provide few details about the case.
So, strategically, one can assume that this is the distance she needs to put between herself and the situation. The responsibility to take care of this lies with the show organizers. We might find out that there was no water, whose choice was it to turn off the water, the heat, whose fault was it for being too hot? From Taylor’s team or the organizers? Is it the concert hall? There’s a lot of responsibility.”
Soon after, McPherson detailed how the situation may be affecting the artist personally and her work:
The only thing we know is that she is absolutely distancing herself from this case, any blame,” continued Molly McPherson. “She puts her heart into this, because it can’t get any worse for an artist. You need to put yourself in Taylor’s shoes, too… imagine that you need to continue performing, and it won’t leave your head anytime soon, with a situation in which a fan dies, with her photos being published, it’s very tragic .”
