1. The creator’s past

Before “Five Nights at Freddy’s” became so popular, Scott Cawthon, the game’s creator, was just an unknown game designer. What few know is that, in addition to creating one of the most famous horror games in the world, Scott is one of the animators at Hope Animation studio, where he dedicates himself to making Christian animations.

In fact, it was because of one of his religious productions that “Five Nights at Freddy’s” came about. This is because he created several Christian games, but they were not successful. One of them was “Chipper & Sons Lumber Co.”, a minigame with simple graphics about a squirrel and his father, who worked in a lumber yard.

The game, which was the designer’s first to have any kind of success, received a lot of criticism, one of which was the fact that the animations were similar to animatronic dolls, since they were harsh and there was no emotion in the eyes. After that, Scott he fell into depression and almost abandoned his profession.

2. Scares

It’s not just fans of the game who are scared by the game’s characters. The creator himself has already revealed that he accidentally got scared a few times while developing the game.

3. Child’s voice

Many people don’t realize it, but most of the sounds in the game are children’s voices. An example of this is Freddy’s laugh, which is a childish laugh slowed down to become more serious and macabre.

And there’s more: when the animatronics catch you, they make a sound until the screen goes dark. If you look for the audio file of that moment, it will continue, and you can see that the sound is, in fact, a child’s scream.

4. No support

When Scott decided to develop “Five Nights at Freddy’s”, he tried to raise money through crowdfunding, creating a campaign on the Kickstarter website. After a few weeks, the designer didn’t get any money through the platform. After six months, even without this financial incentive, he managed to launch the game.

5. Golden Freddy

One of the biggest mysteries of “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is the golden version of Freddy, known as “Golden Freddy”. This variant has some different powers, such as teleporting into a room. In an interview, Scott was asked about the golden character, and his answer was: “There are things that just happen during development” (via techtudo).

The designer’s phrase implied that Golden Freddy would be a programming error. However, this would be somewhat impossible if we take into account the program used to develop the game. In other words, many speculate that the golden version of Freddy was programmed to be the way he appears in the game.
