Find out the reason behind the absence of the seven dwarfs in the live-action ‘Snow White’
Since its announcement, the live-action “Branca de Neve” has become the subject of several controversies on the internet. The feature, which promises to recreate the 1937 classic in a modern way, is scheduled to premiere only in 2024, and will feature Rachel Zegler giving life to the protagonist princess, and Gal Gadot like the Evil Queen.
However, one of the biggest controversies involving the production is the absence of the seven dwarfs, characters that are very important in the animation plot, but that, in the new version, were replaced by other magical creatures, as stated in an announcement made by Disney.
But why aren’t the seven dwarfs in the movie?
As reflected by the ScreenRant portal, the studio would have decided to change the participation of the seven dwarfs after a strong criticism made by the actor Peter Dinklageknown for living Tyrion Lannister in the series “Game of Thrones”, who accused Disney of reinforcing the stereotype of people with dwarfism through live-action.
During an interview with the WTF podcast in early 2022, Peter acknowledges the lineup’s attitude of Zeglera Latina woman, for such an important character, however, was amazed at the studio’s decision to keep “that retrograde story of seven dwarfs living in a cave together”.
“They are proud that they cast a Latina woman as Snow White, but they are still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and see what you’re doing there. It doesn’t make sense to me. You make progress in a way, but you’re still doing a retrograde story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.”
The star continued his reasoning by questioning his own performance within the community: “Did I not do anything for the cause? [de pessoas com nanismo] with my platform? I don’t think I’ve been speaking loud enough. I don’t know which studio [fará o filme], but they were so proud. All love and respect [a Zegler] and to the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m here thinking ‘what are you guys doing?’”.
After his criticisms, he responded to the accusations where, through a note, he revealed that the characters will be approached in a different way than what we know.
“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and consulting with members of the dwarfing community. We look forward to sharing more as the film enters production after a long period of development.”
Also, in July of this year, the first image of the new characters that will replace Dunga, Zangado, Mestre, Dengoso, Soneca, Atchim and Feliz started to be shared on the internet. Check out!
