After DC’s reformulation and the confirmation of ‘Superman: Legacy’ doubts about the future of the feature were raised; find out the answer
The film that will bring the black version of Superman to the big screen is still in the plans of Warner Bros., according to information provided by the co-president of DC Studios, James Gunn, in an interview with io9, as reported by Gizmodo and Omelete.
The doubt about the development of the feature film arises after the reformulation of DC in theaters, where several previously approved features were cancelled. In addition, the confirmation of the pre-production of ‘Superman: Legacy’, the new live-action that will mark the cinematic reboot of the hero, also raised questions about the future of the film.
However, when asked if ‘Superman: Legacy’ could affect the production that will bring the black Superman to the screen, Gunn clarified: “these two things are not related”.
This is an exciting film,” continued the director. “I know Chantal Nong, who is executive producing on the project, is very excited about this. So if it happens and it’s great – I haven’t read the script yet – but if the timing is right it could super happen.”
In addition, the plot is part of the studio’s list of “untouchable” scripts, according to Omelete, where there is also ‘Joker 2’ by Todd Phillips and the sequel to ‘Batman’ by Matt Reeves. The black Superman film will feature production by JJ Abrams (Star Trek) and script signed byTa-Nehisi Coates (from the Black Panther comics).
It is also worth remembering that ‘Superman: Legacy’ is scheduled for July 11, 2025 in theaters, where Gunn will lead the production as director. The plot should show a younger version of the Kryptonian Kal-El, or Clark Kent, as he is known on Earth.
