Oleg Nikolenko noted that the article by German journalists consists of outdated and incorrect judgments.
The German Press Agency (DPA) in its material stated that Ukraine’s hope for a more concrete prospect of joining NATO “is in danger of failure.” However, such arguments of German journalists are a set of false judgments that have long lost their relevance. This was stated by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.
He recalled that in the context of preparations for the NATO summit in Vilnius, German journalists, referring to unnamed interlocutors, argued that steps towards NATO membership could allegedly divert attention from to “more important support for Ukraine.”
Nikolenko also drew the fact that in the opinion of the news agency, the new obligations to NATO can push the Russian Federation to a more aggressive war, and the development will be possible only after Ukraine achieves victory in the conflict to the Russian invasion.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that these arguments constitute a series of false judgments that have lost their relevance. He admitted that important battles lie ahead for Ukraine, but stressed that the country has already achieved impressive defensive success. Ukraine has not only withstood the blow, but is also conducting successful operations to liberate the occupied territories.
“Previously, we have heard arguments about the need to refrain from steps that could allegedly provoke Russia into renewed aggression,” Nikolenko added.
He noted that the only thing that excites Russia is uncertainty. Diplomatic efforts by Ukraine, France and Germany within the framework of the Minsk process do not help prevent a full-scale Russian invasion. Because Moscow’s goal is the complete destruction of Ukraine.
According to Nikolenko, the current international support for Ukraine in resisting the Russian invaders does not contradict, but rather “complements the process of gaining NATO membership.”
“The future of Euro-Atlantic security is being decided on the battlefield in Ukraine, and our country’s accession to NATO will guarantee the strategic security of the entire Alliance,” he stressed.
The spokesman of the Foreign Ministry added that Ukraine is not a problem, but an advantage for NATO. Ukraine’s entry into NATO is in the interests of the Alliance itself. He urged the partners to show leadership.
Remember, the DPA said that the United States and Germany do not yet want to take specific obligations for Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
