‘Pinocchio de Guillermo del Toro’ is available on the streaming platform Netflix
Last Sunday, the 95th edition of the Oscars took place, the main award of the world film industry, where “Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro”, from Netflix, took the statuette for the category of “Best Animated Film”. Production surpassed titles such as “A Fera do Mar”, “Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order”, “Marcell the Shell with Shoes On” and “Red: Growing is a Beast”.
During a press conference held after the awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, Guillermo del Toro commented a little more about the victory, in addition to defending the format, stating that animations should receive more recognition within the industry.
“Everything we do [em animação] it’s more complex than in live-action. We need to get organized. Communicating with unions and the Academy [para que a animação seja mais respeitada]”, vented the filmmaker, who also announced the creation of a scholarship for stop-motion artists. “Stop-motion is one of the most democratic forms of animation. Digital is very expensive, but a kid can create animation using stop-motion in their bedroom.”
As for the prize, Guillermo reaffirmed the importance of her victory for the Latino community, and the way she is seen within the film industry.
“The thing about diversity is that you can’t do good just for yourself. You are opening doors for other people. So you need to do it well. [as coisas]. In the 1990s, the presence of Latinos in the United States was very different. [A representatividade] it does not end with a generation. You need to keep testing the limits.”
“Pinocchi de Guillermo del Toro” recreates the classic tale of Carlo Collodi about the wooden boy, being situated between the First and Second World War in Italy, and showing the protagonist puppet in a reality where fascism and authoritarianism are present. Check out the trailer!
