In addition to creating incredible original stories, Disney also has a vast list of productions that emerged being inspired by some classics of literature – whether they are fairy tales, or even great mysteries.
Most likely, some of your favorite animations may have been based on books, and you didn’t even know it. To solve this problem, Recreio separated a list of 5 Disney animations that were inspired by literary works and that you need to know. Check out!
1. The Adventures of a Detective Mouse
Being a film that is not so remembered by most people, “The Adventures of a Little Mouse Detective”, released in 1986, was inspired by one of the most famous detectives in the literary world: Sherlock Holmes, created by the British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at the end of the 19th century.
2. Oliver and the Gang

With its debut held in 1988, “Oliver and his gang” also ended up not receiving much attention from the public. The animation is based on the novel “Oliver Twist”, by Charles Dickenspublished in the year 1938 in London, England.
3. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Disney’s first feature-length animation didn’t come from the brilliant mind of walt disney. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is inspired by the version of the tale published by Brothers Grimm between the years 1817 and 1822 in the book “Kinder-und Hausmärchen”, which also featured other famous fables.
4. Cinderella

The favorite princess of walt disney also came about thanks to one of the popular collections of tales of the Brothers Grimmpublished in 1812. However, the work was very different from the one we know today, with a darker plot, and another name for the main character: Aschenputtel.
5. Sleeping Beauty

Another princess who was inspired by one of the works of Grimm is “Sleeping Beauty”. Aurora’s story, released in 1959, came about thanks to the short story entitled “Little Brier-Rose”, and the only difference it has from the original work is that, in the book, the three fairies responsible for taking care of the girl do not exist.
