This is how the agency reacted to the scandal caused by the statements of stand-up comedian Andrey Schegel.
Responsibility for violation of the rules of departure and return to Ukraine of men of military age is proposed to be strengthened. This was stated by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on Saturday, March 4.
The ICIP, along with law enforcement agencies, introduced increased accountability for breaking the rules for the removal of male artists.
“Currently, the ICIP has prepared and submitted for Government approval a stricter procedure for obtaining permits for temporary travel abroad by men of military age,” it was reported.
The initiative from the Ministry of Culture was presented against the backdrop of a scandal in the words of stand-up comedian Andrei Shchegel. The day before, his interview appeared in which he said he fled from Ukraine to Turkey because he was “tired of the war.” In addition, to cross the border, he used an exit permit from the Ministry of Culture.
“ICIP facilitates the travel of various artists, creators, artists, artists, musicians, journalists, etc., aware of their work and citizenship, but because of such cases, like that of Andriy Shchegel, the situation is for those who really defend. Ukraine and fighting in the field of culture, it becomes more complicated,” the message read.
The ministry said that the situation with the violation of the right to leave granted to Shchegel with the obligatory return to Ukraine and the prevention of mobilization will be brought under the control of law enforcement officials.
“A comedian’s actions are unacceptable under martial law, at a time when the majority of conscious men remain in the country and are ready to fight for the preservation of our state,” the Ministry of Culture summarized.
As already reported, the PFU will now receive information from the border guards of Ukraine about the departure of citizens abroad or to the occupied territories.
