Before Marvel Studios invited her to participate in the ‘Ant-Man’ franchise films, Evangeline Lilly told the podcast “Happy Sad Confused”, via EW and website Omelete, that he turned down some hero character roles, such as in the X-Men saga, and to be Wonder Woman.
In the case of X-Men, evangeline said that whoever invited her to the franchise was Hugh Jackmanwith whom she had already worked in ‘Gigantes de Aço’, in 2011. At the time, the actress said:
“He said to me, ‘Hey, the X-Men people asked me if I could approach you, since we’re filming together, to see if you were interested in a role over there.’ And I said, ‘No, I’m not. interest'”
The actress continued, commenting on how she felt after that: “I felt like a bigger brand imbecile, because I had to refuse the proposal in his face! He is an X-Men, the most famous of the X-Men! And I’m here saying that the idea was not interesting to me. I felt very rude!”.
Still, in the role of Wonder Woman, the invitation came through a meeting with the director Joss Whedon, who was looking for an actress to play the princess of Themyscira. So, about this situation, evangeline commented:
“I think I realized halfway through the meeting that I had no desire to be on the project, and he did. It had no appeal to me, nothing he said made me think, ‘Oh, I have to do this!’ I’m too authentic for my own good. If I’m not impressed by the idea, you’ll notice — and maybe you shouldn’t.”
She even commented on what she thought about hero movies: “People who knew me knew that I made fun of the genre, considered it a lower form of entertainment”.
Until one day, the actress was encouraged by her agent with the condition that she watch a Marvel movie before turning down the invitation to ‘Ant-Man’, she then said: “When I finally did it, I thought, ‘Oh, they they’re doing something really different and really cool here.'”.
The movie ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ hit theaters last Thursday, the 16th. Remember the trailer!
