Now, Warsaw is ready to consider the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Kyiv, and in the future it may join the countries supplying F-16s.
Poland is considering the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine and, in the event of a coalition for the transfer of F-16 fighters, is ready to join it. This was announced on Friday, February 17, by Polish President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Ukrinform.
At the same time, he noted that the training of the pilot who will serve the aircraft is a “long-term process.”
“The training of Ukrainian pilots requires long months of training, there is no doubt about that,” Duda stressed.
At the same time, Ukrainian pilots are “ready to fly immediately” on MiG-29 or Su aircraft.
“In fact, they can just fly home to them immediately. Therefore, without a doubt, if the MiG-29 aircraft are transferred, they will be able to immediately strengthen the defense of Ukraine, and this is very important. Of course, very few countries of NATO has MiG aircraft. We have many more such aircraft, and we will consider this issue,” said Duda.
According to him, there is a “problem” in the issue of providing Ukraine with Polish F-16 fighter jets, because “Poland has very few of them, given the size and general potential of the country.” He recalled that the F-35 and FA-50 aircraft, purchased from the United States and South Korea, respectively, are now waiting in Poland.
“This is a difficult moment for us, because we ourselves depend on the aircraft. Of course, if a broad aviation coalition is created among NATO countries, then we will definitely join it as well,” said Doubtful, added that the decision on what formula this will happen, will be discussed with the allies.
It was previously reported that Slovakia intends to transfer its MiG-29s to Ukraine. Britain is also considering moving aircraft to Ukraine.
