CBS has released another trailer for Prince Harry’s upcoming “60 Minutes” interview, showing the royal telling Anderson Cooper he was “probably a bigot” before his relationship with Meghan Markle.
“What Meghan had to go through, to some extent, was similar to what Kate and Camilla went through,” Harry says in the new clip, adding that the women faced “very different circumstances.”
“But then you add the element of race, which the press – the British press – immediately jumped on. I went into this incredibly naive,” says the real. “I had no idea the British press was so bigoted. Like I was probably a bigot before Meghan.”
“You think you were a bigot before Meghan?” Cooper presses.
“I don’t know,” Harry replies. “Put it this way: I didn’t see what I see now.”
Previous trailers of the interview have shown Harry discussing press leaks and the royal family’s motto of “Never complain, never explain” and claims that some royal correspondents are “fed information” to write fairy tales .
“They will basically say they have contacted Buckingham Palace for comment. But the whole story is commenting on Buckingham Palace,” he told Cooper in a trailer. “So when we’ve been told for the last six years, ‘We can’t make a statement to protect you,’ but you can for other family members. It becomes a moment when silence is betrayal.
The Duke of Sussex also gave a firm ‘no’ when Cooper asked in a separate clip if he would ever return as a full-time member of the royal family.
Harry’s interview with Cooper airs on January 8, three years after he and wife Meghan Markle announced they would step down as working members of the royal family.
Another interview – in which Harry talks to his friend Tom Bradby, an ITV news presenter – will be broadcast on Sunday.
Both interviews are on behalf of Harry Spare’s memoir, due out on January 10. In a press release announcing the book, the royal said he was “delighted that people are reading a first-hand account of my life that is accurate and completely truthful. .”
A few days before the book’s release, The Guardian and Page Six each obtained excerpts. Spanish bookstores also released the book five days before its scheduled publication date, causing a media frenzy for translated versions of the excerpts.
