A conservative group has erected six billboards in the home area of Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Leader of the Minority in the House of Representatives, after he was caught lying.
“We listened to the tapes, Kevin,” the Republican Accountability Project (RAP) billboards read:
Last week, McCarthy denied reports that he personally told other Republicans to call for Donald Trump’s resignation on Jan. 6, 2021, following an attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of the then president. .
Hours later, leaked audio confirmed that McCarthy said exactly that – and more audio was revealed saying “he’ll do it” with Trump.
“In the focus group I conducted recently with Ohio Trump voters, no one had heard about McCarthy’s tapes,” RAP chief executive Sarah Longwell said in a press release. “So we’re going to start this conversation in the McCarthy area.”
McCarthy has since claimed he never asked Trump to step down and Trump himself has issued a statement in support of McCarthy.
The Republican Accountability Project, never a Trump conservative group, works against lawmakers who supported and empowered the former president. The organization removed TV ads, digital advertisements and billboards and put McCarthy online in the hall of shame. “
These billboards will last for two weeks.
