Poland will no longer buy gas from Russia

The gas contract with Gazprom will end in December of this year. Poland has been preparing for it for six years.

The Polish authorities have decided not to buy natural gas from Russia. This was announced on Wednesday, April 27, by the Government Commissioner for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Piotr Naimsky, on the air of Poland’s radio station RMF FM.

“We will not buy gas from Russian companies. It happened faster than we expected. Under normal conditions, the gas contract with Gazprom should expire in December of this year. Six we’ve been preparing for this for years, ”Naimsky said.

According to him, a floating terminal for the reception of liquefied natural gas (LNG) will appear in Gdansk. This will give Poland an additional 6 billion cubic meters. m. of gas. The launch of the project is planned for 2027, but now they want to speed it up and launch the terminal until 2025.

In addition, a gas pipeline from Norway with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters is expected to be launched in October this year. m.

“If there is no cataclysm, then under predictable conditions, gas supplies to Poland are guaranteed,” Naimsky added.

At the same time, he admitted that Poland could pay more for gas.

“Due to these conditions of war and energy crisis, gas, like other energy sources, could become more expensive,” the Polish government representative explained.

Earlier on Wednesday, Gazprom announced the cessation of gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria. This is due to the fact that both countries refuse to pay in Russian rubles.
