The beginning of the period of obtaining gas from UGS is the latest in the last decade, said Ukrtransgaz.
Ukraine has started using gas reserves accumulated in underground storage facilities (UGS). This was announced by Ukrtransgaz on Tuesday, November 8.
“The start of the 2022/2023 withdrawal season fell on November 7. This is the latest officially recorded start of gas withdrawal in the last decade,” the report said.
It is indicated that the gas is now withdrawn to a gas storage facility, which was chosen due to the maximum flexibility in regulating technological regimes. Thus, the UGS operator can quickly respond to the needs of the country’s system and population during changing seasons.
The record-breaking late start to picking this year is due to several key factors:
-
favorable weather conditions and relatively high air temperatures in the autumn months;
-
increased interest in gas pumping at Ukrainian UGS facilities on the part of non-resident companies;
-
a general reduction in the level of energy consumption in Ukraine.
“The Ukrtransgaz team made every effort to pump as much natural gas from Ukrainian and non-resident production as possible into the Ukrainian UGSFs. Now we can say that the system has successfully passed the injection season and ready for the heating season. We understand that we are facing difficult challenges and the hardest winter in the history of independent Ukraine,” said Serhiy Pereloma, head of Ukrtransgaz.
Recall that Ukraine has accumulated 14.2 billion cubic meters of gas at the beginning of the heating season. At the same time, it was originally planned to stock 19 billion cubic meters for the winter.
At the same time, the authorities expect that in the upcoming heating season, gas consumption will decrease by 39.7% (by 7.7 billion cubic meters) compared to the previous one, at 11.7 billion cubic meters. m.
