The permit to continue operating the nuclear power plant will expire after April 15, 2023, the federal government assured.
The German government has drafted a bill to extend the operation of the country’s last three nuclear power plants until April 15, 2022. After that, the nuclear power plants will be shut down permanently. This was announced by Environment Minister Steffi Lemke and Economy Minister Robert Habek, Ukrinform said on Thursday, October 20.

“This decision was made because of the potential crisis situation this winter, when it is necessary to be able to continue producing electricity … and make a definite contribution to maintaining energy stability in Germany,” Lemke said.
The permit to continue operating nuclear power plants will expire after April 15, and operators will no longer have fuel cells for the plants.
In this regard, Khabek added that the decision to extend the use of the last nuclear power plant in the country will help maintain the stability of the networks. He expressed hope that the bill would quickly pass consideration in the Bundestag and Bundesrat.
As you know, Germany has promised to completely abandon nuclear energy by the end of 2022. In early September, it was reported that two nuclear power plants, Neckarwestheim and Isar 2, are on standby until the spring of 2023. And the Emsland station is intended to close in 2022.
