Ukrainians must reduce electricity consumption by 20%, otherwise the lights will be turned off on schedule.
In Ukraine, rolling blackout schedules will be introduced if the reduction in electricity consumption is below 20%. This was announced on Thursday, December 20, by the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko on the air of the telethon.
He cited two components of the decline in consumption. The first is conscious contraction. “And the second – when it is not enough, we, taking into account the shelling and damage to the energy system, are forced to have forced restrictions,” said the minister.
According to him, as a result of the voluntary reduction in the first days after the start of the Russian energy strikes, it was about 10%.
At the same time, Galushchenko noted that calls to save electricity do not always work, especially in the western regions.
The head of the Ministry of Energy added that a 20% reduction in consumption would “critically help our energy system.” Otherwise, it will be “forced” to start suspending blackouts throughout Ukraine.
In turn, the head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky said that Ukraine’s energy system currently maintains its integrity, the restrictions introduced across the country today are aimed at ensuring that it remains stable.
The authorities are working on several options for the development of the situation with different intensity of damage to electrical facilities.
“We consider any scenario, even the most extreme. We calculate how the power system will work at different levels of damage. We know what to do in different situations,” he said .
The previous day, the Ministry of Energy reported that rolling power outages are possible in different regions of Ukraine to simplify the process of restoring the destroyed infrastructure.
Today, restrictions have been introduced in some regions to save electricity, but rolling blackouts have not yet begun.
