export of non-traditional agricultural products from Peru last August were $820 million, up 24.3% from the same month in 2021 when they reached $659 million, the Central Reserve Bank said this Sunday (BCR).
Last August saw an increase in shipments from Peru abroad of blueberries, fresh avocados, tangerines, shrimp and shrimp products, and crude palm oil.
In terms of volume, these export they are up 25.4% compared to the same month in 2021, while prices are down 0.8% year on year.
BCR He explained that the increase in export volumes is due to the increase in the production of blueberries (44.7%) and avocados (17%), “in the context of continuous growth due to investments in previous years.”
In this sense, overseas sales agricultural products they accumulated $5,018 million in the first eight months of 2022, up 11.2% from the same period in 2021 when they reached $4,513 million, driven primarily by an 11.4% increase in shipment volumes.
Destination of export
Across countries, compared to August 2021, sales of agricultural products were higher USA, in this case blueberries and fresh tangerines; in the Netherlands, fresh avocados; to Ecuador, shrimp and shrimp food; and to Spain, fresh avocados.
Last week, the Association of Exporters (ADEX) reported that Peru became the world’s ninth fruit supplier in 2021, when it ranked first in sales of products such as blueberries and grapes.
The Union of Exporters explained that Peru is the world’s leading exporter of blueberries, with a share of 25.1% of the total; quinoa – 42.9%; and grapes – 13.4%.
In addition, it was the second largest exporter of canned asparagus with a share of 38.6% of the total and fresh asparagus with a share of 27.7%; a third of canned olives, with 16.7%; avocado – 14.4%, dry paprika – 6.9%; and canned artichoke – 6%; in addition to a quarter of ginger, with 7.8%.
