The government of Ukraine has condemned the “brutal murder” of the director of the Kherson Philharmonic. Yuri Kerpatenkofor refusing to cooperate with pro-Russian authorities.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine said that “Russian soldiers shot him dead in his own house after refusing to cooperate with the occupiers” and cites journalist Olena Vanina as a source.
Kerpatenko worked with the Kherson Regional Philharmonic Orchestra in Ukraine since 2000 and since 2004 – director of the Kherson Music and Drama Theater named after Nikola Kulish. He was also acting director of the Gilea Chamber Orchestra.
“Yuri Kerpatenko openly declared his civic position and refused to leave the Kherson region because of the occupation,” the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine said in a statement.
Portal kherson.online explains that in connection with 1 October International Music DayRussian forces and the pro-Russian authorities prepared a concert at which the Kerpatenko Chamber Orchestra “Gilea” performed.
With this concert, they sought to demonstrate the return of normal life, to test the “restoration of peaceful life” in Kherson, but director Kerpatenko refused to participate, the ministry said. “We express our sincere condolences to Yuri’s family and colleagues,” the statement said.

France will receive 2,000 Ukrainian troops
French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said they would be taking in 2,000 soldiers from Ukraine for a few weeks for training and indicated they were looking into sending rocket launchers to Kyiv in an interview published this Saturday on Parisians.
“This is an important step that meets the basic requirements of Ukrainians. […] They will be placed in our units within a few weeks. We have already given them artillery training so that they can handle the Caesars (French-made guns), but now we are taking it a step further,” Lecornu said.
