According to ManpowerGroup’s Short-Term Job Opportunities for Youth 2022 report, in Latin America, 75% of young people aged 18 to 29 have difficulty finding work.

Until this year, the country Latin America El Salvador, where 9 out of 10 young people are looking for work, finds it difficult to find a job. Only at the level of South America is Paraguay the country with the highest level of this problem.

In Peru alone, 81% of young people surveyed report having trouble finding employment, meaning eight out of 10 Peruvians have difficulty finding work.

Of this total, 40% of young people are looking for Work about six months, and 22% have been looking for work for more than a year.

But why aren’t young people finding work in Latin America?

The ManpowerGroup report shows that the top three reasons why young people have difficulty finding worked are lack of experience (33%), low wages (19%) and knowledge of languages ​​(13%).

ManpowerGroup experts note that the most effective strategy for achieving Work it is to start with temporary positions, because, being part of the company’s training programs, they will be considered as potential for them.

How much do young people expect to earn?

The study shows that 53% youth in the region expect to earn from one to three times the minimum wage.

If we take into account that in Peru the cost of living is SGD 1,025, this means that young people expect to earn up to SGD 3,075 per month.

28% of young people expect to win minimal salary16% expect to earn 4 or even times the minimum wage, and only 3% expect remuneration to exceed 7 minimum wages.

What are the most in-demand areas for work?

According to the study, young people are increasingly looking for work in five strategic areas:

  • Financial and administrative: positions in the field of personnel management, law, social responsibility, accounting, finance are considered here.
  • Commercial, Marketing and Sales: This includes majors in business intelligence, public relations, institutional or government.
  • Information technology or systems.
  • Production or Manufacturing.
  • Logistics and transport.
