Lawmakers ask you to check if the OnePlus smartphone is personal information by American users on Chinese servers.
American lawmakers have called on the U.S. Department of Community to begin an investigation of how the Chinese company processes Oneplus user data in the United States. It was reported by the Reuters that there was a reference to the letter of congressmen John Muleenar and Raja Krishnamurti, members of the Chinese Committee of the House of Representative.
The document refers to the analytical report of a commercial company, which is said to indicate that the OnePlus smartphone may, without the permission of the user, collect confidential information, including screenshots, and transfer it to the servers located in China.
This brings a special concern against the background of tightening requirements for personal data protection in the United States. In April 2025, the Ministry of Justice introduced data transfer restrictions to competing countries, including China.
OnePlus is actively present in the American market – its smartphones are sold on Amazon, on the Best Buy Network and supported by major operators such as T -Mobile and Verizon. It strengthens the dangers that lawmakers see, and is forced to request immediate intervention.
Congressmen were asked to revive the ICTS program, which was responsible for the critical infrastructure cybersecurity to find out what type of data was collected by Oneplus devices, if users were warned about it, and if these data were sent out of the country without permission.
This is not the first time Chinese phone manufacturers are in the eyes of American organs. Previously, similar investigations were conducted against Huawei and ZTE – both companies eventually obtained a list of penalties in the US.
At the time of publication, OnePlus did not officially comment on the situation.
