In Ukraine from December 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025, at least 968 civilians were killed in Ukraine as a result of Russian military aggression, another 4807 was injured – it was 37% more than the same period of last year. This is stated in a report by the office of the Supreme Commissioner of UN Human Rights (UVKPL), Ukrinform report.
It has been noted that in recent months there has been a significant increase in victims amidst the civilian population against behind the strengthening of military operations and the “evolution” of war tactics, including a sharp increase in the number of deadly attacks using drones.
As emphasized, most of these victims took place in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government, “mainly as a result of attacks by Russian armed forces using long explosions in the arrangements and drones of a small radius of action near the front -line regions.”
According to the report, nearly half of all the victims in the middle of the civilian population were caused by rockets, hindrance ammunition and bombs, which dropped from the air to population areas. At least three attacks, Russian armed forces use rockets with fragmentation-fluid warheads.
According to the UN Monitoring Mission leader in Human Rights in Ukraine, Daniel Belle, the war in Ukraine, which is taking place for four years, is becoming more fatal for the civilian population. The UN confirmed that as a result of the attack by Russian UAVs, 207 civilians were killed and 1,365 were injured.
During the reporting, the Russians caused a direct blow to at least five hospitals, and some of them found many unexplained ammunition, indicating a possible deliberately committed injury to hospitals and violation of international human law.
The report also refers to violations related to Ukrainian military personnel who have fallen into Russian captivity. The UN has recorded reliable messages about the implementation of at least 35 Ukrainian prisoners of war from December 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.
UN representatives were interviewed by 117 recently released Ukraine prisoners of war and two incarcerated medical workers, almost everyone spoke about torture and cruelty to Russia’s captivity.
