In the current marketing year 2021/2022 (September 1, 2021 – August 31, 2022), as of July 25, 33 factories in Ukraine produced 1.45 million tons of sugar, which is 130.5% of the production in the previous marketing year. This was announced yesterday by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

“According to the balance of supply and demand for sugar calculated by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the transitional balance at the beginning of the 2021/2022 marketing year is estimated at 332,000 tons, which corresponds to a three-month demand of the domestic market ( the optimal reserve is a two-month demand of the domestic market),” the report said. .

At the same time, the supply of sugar in the current marketing year is 1.8 million tons, which is enough for:

  • ensuring the domestic market, its volume is estimated at 1.21 million tons (based on the consumption of 28.9 kg / year per person);

  • creation of export potential in the amount of 120 thousand tons (of which 70 thousand tons of sugar and 50 thousand tons of sugar-containing products);

  • the formation of significant stocks at the beginning of the 2022/2023 marketing year in the amount of 470 thousand tons, which corresponds to almost five months of domestic consumption.

For exports, 73 thousand tons of sugar, including products containing sugar, were exported during the 10 months of the current marketing year.

The ministry added that in 2022, sugar beets will be sown in an area of 180.4 thousand hectares.

“With a predicted yield of 430-440 c/ha, the total sugar beet yield (under favorable weather conditions) is expected to be 7.830 million tons, of which, with a sugar yield of 13.5-14%, about 1.080 million tons of sugar can be produced. From September 1, 2022 2019, it is planned to produce sugar through the most powerful 23 sugar factories,” said the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

Taking into account the transitional balances from September 1, 2022, sugar resources for the period of the next 2022/2023 marketing year (September 1, 2022 – August 31, 2023):

  • will fully meet the needs of the domestic market, which is expected to be 1.13 million tons, of which 1.07 million tons is population consumption),

  • the export potential in the 2022/2023 marketing year is estimated at 100 thousand tons, of which 50 thousand tons are sugar, 50 thousand tons are sugar-containing products;

  • Carryover balances on September 1, 2023, according to forecast calculations, are expected in the amount of 370 thousand tons, which corresponds to almost four months of domestic consumption.

Since there is an abundance of sugar in Ukraine, there are no plans to establish any restrictions on its export, the ministry concluded.
