For a country where grain is one of the major export articles, such a collapse is a serious blow to the economy.
Russia’s wheat supply to world markets in 2024/25 of agriculturs will be reduced by 20-25% due to the collapse of yields, logistics problems and reducing sown areas. It was written by the businessman on Thursday, June 5.
It has been mentioned that Russian wheat export will decrease by 25.2% – up to 41.5 million tons. This is a sharp decrease compared to last year’s 55.5 million tons. For a country where grain includes major export articles, such a collapse is a serious blow to the economy and budget.
In January-April of 2025, volumes of supplies fell 40% compared to last year, and in March-April-by 60%.
Among the main reasons for reducing exports are a weak yield, small regional export reserves and the high cost of railroad transport from the Volga region. According to the Union of Exporters and grain manufacturers, the current wheat harvest will be 82.6 million tons – it is 16% less than last year.
Russian grain union president Arkady Zlochevsky recalled: last year 10 million tons of wheat was decaying only due to a lack of warehouse capacity.
The reason for lowering production is also a reduction in crops. The areas under the wheat dropped to a minimum for six years – from 36.5% to 35.4%, or by 1.2 million hectares.
In 2023, grain exports brought Russia $ 15.5 billion. Now this stream is quickly drained. The consequences are a reduction in money revenues, a budget deficit, a possible increase in bread and flour prices in the country. In conditions of penalty pressure, it becomes a systematic crisis.
Keep in mind that the manufacture of wheat in the Russian Federation has been reduced for the third year in succession. For the first time for many years, Russian risks are losing its leadership position in the world’s grain market.
