The MGC battle tank project, defined as a successor to the leopard and leclerc tanks of both countries, is expected to be ready for operations during the 2030s.
Many defense companies from Germany and France have received permission to come together to build battle tanks. The Federal Antimonopoly Office did not announce any obstacles to the implementation of the MGC billion project (basic land battle system). Handelsblatt reported this Friday, April 4.
The project involves the creation of a modern military platform of the future through the joint efforts of KNDS Deutschland (earlier KMW), KNDS France (earlier Nexter), Rheinmetall Landsystem and Thales six. According to the Bonn department, project participants fit each other and at the same time compete with other manufacturers of armored vehicles, so there are no violations of the antimonopoly law.
The new joint adventure will have the headquarters in Germany, and its only customers will be the governments of Germany and France.
MGCs should be alternative to leopard and leclerc tanks and entered the service in the 2030s. Its estimated cost is about 100 billion euros.
MGCs will be a new generation platform, which combines battle tanks with drones and other supporting systems in a single network. This should provide a technological success in the field of conducting land battle operations.
However, industrial misunderstandings around the distribution of project duties have led to delays and intensification between Berlin and Paris. To overcome disagreements, in January the parties signed a new cooperation agreement.
Despite this, the competition between partners continues – for example, Rheinmetall in parallel will develop its own Panther KF51 tank and has a combined adventure in Italian Leonardo for the manufacture of armored vehicles.
Earlier, we reported that the European Union would not allow defense companies in the United States, Veliky Britain and Turkey to funding from the funds of 150 billion euros to these countries to conclude related security settlements in the EU.
RheinMetall entered an agreement with a Bundeswehr for $ 270 million
