One of the main factors behind the decline in sales is weak demand for electric vehicles and problems in China.
Mercedes-Benz sold 2.4 million vehicles by the end of 2024, which is 4% less than last year, reports Automobilwoche.
The main reasons for the annual decline in sales are the company’s problems in China and weak global demand for electric vehicles, the publication writes.
Sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars fell 3% to 1.98 million units. Some improvements were recorded in the fourth quarter of the year: passenger car sales increased by 1%, mainly thanks to top models such as the G-Class. However, by the end of the year, sales in the luxury segment fell by 14%, which affected profits, although the S-Class maintained its leadership in the global market.
The E-Class and GLC remained Mercedes’ bestsellers at the end of the year – sales in the segment increased by 6%. Sales of plug-in hybrids also increased by 13%.
But sales of electric vehicles fell by 22% compared to last year. Mercedes hopes that the future electric CLA on the new MMA platform with improved range and charging speed will change this situation.
We remind you that in Ukraine the market for electric cars grew by 38% throughout the year.
