The Ministry of Justice will prepare amendments to the national law to carry out the nationalization of Moldovagaz.
In a government meeting, the Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean instructed to prepare a legislative framework for the nationalization of the company’s assets Moldovagaz, in which a controlling stake is owned by a Russian Gazprom. Local media reported this on Monday, December 30.
Recan expressed anger at the decision Gazprom stop gas supplies to the Transnistrian region from January 1, 2025.
“This decision was made contrary to the existing agreement between Moldovagaz And Gazpromunder the pretext of a historical debt of more than $700 million. An international audit showed no debt. Perhaps this money was spent on travel and yachts, but it is unacceptable to transfer this responsibility to the shoulders of Moldovan citizens. We will deal with this situation, just as we dealt with Russia’s energy blackmail before,” the head of government said.
He instructed the Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Morar to prepare amendments to the national law to carry out the nationalization of enterprises.
“Mrs. Mihailov-Moraru, I ask you to prepare the necessary changes in the law to carry out the nationalization of strategic sectors.Moldovagaz, – ed.) was also forcibly removed from us in ancient times. And we must return them to state ownership,” concluded Recan.
As you know, on Saturday Gazprom announced that from January 1 it will stop gas supplies to Moldova due to alleged failure to fulfill payment obligations under the current contract. In response, Moldova threatened arbitration Gazprom.
Last week it was revealed that Moldova is limiting electricity consumption, especially during peak hours. At the same time, earlier in December a state of emergency was declared in Moldova for 60 days. It aims to allow the government to respond quickly and limit energy exports.
