As the reason for this decision, the monopolist allegedly points to Moldova’s refusal to pay the debt for gas supplies.

Russian gas monopolist Gazprom will stop gas supplies to Moldova from January 1, 2025. The company announced this on Saturday, December 28.

As the reason for this decision, the monopolist allegedly points to Moldova’s refusal to pay the debt for gas supplies. Today Gazprom sent a message to Moldovagaz that failure to fulfill payment obligations under the current contract is a “material breach of its terms.”

“In this regard… PJSC Gazprom from 08:00 January 1, 2025 introduces a limit on natural gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova at 0 cubic meters per day. The restriction will be effective until PJSC Gazprom notifies the JSC Moldovagaz already wrote about another”, said the message.

At the same time, Gazprom did not say a word about the fact that at the same time Ukraine will stop the transit of Russian gas to its territory.

The day before it became known that Moldova limits electricity consumption, especially during peak hours. At the same time, earlier in December a state of emergency was declared in Moldova for 60 days. It aims to allow the government to respond quickly and limit energy exports.
