Ukraine received $1.2 billion from Japan

Half of this amount is intended to provide social protection for low-income and vulnerable segments of the population.

Ukraine received about $1.2 billion from Japan due to various World Bank projects. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced this on Telegram on Thursday, December 26.

He noted that the money arrived in November-December and was directed to projects in the social, medical, educational fields, renewal and business support.

According to him, the funds for the various projects are distributed as follows:

  • $602 million is allocated under the INSPIRE project to ensure social protection of low-income and vulnerable population groups;

  • $400 million under the SURGE program to finance Ukraine’s recovery and stability;

  • $250 million under the RISE project for private sector development;

  • $220 million through Project THRIVE to improve the efficiency of government health spending;

  • $200 million – LEARN project for building a safe and comfortable educational environment.

We thank Japan and the World Bank for their continued participation in the strengthening and development of Ukraine,” said the prime minister.

The money will be used to boost the economy and fund priority spending in the social and humanitarian fields.

We remind you that last week Ukraine received a tranche of $1 billion from Japan and Great Britain. In general, during the mass invasion of the Russian Federation, the Japanese government has already provided Ukraine with various aid worth $12 billion.

Earlier, Shmygal said that by 2024, direct budget support from Western countries will reach $41 billion. Next year, $38 billion is expected to be received and payments of frozen assets of the Russian Federation are expected.
