JAL officials said they have temporarily suspended ticket sales for all services following the incident.

Japan Airlines was hit by a cyber attack and several flights were delayed. Kyodo News reported this on Thursday, December 26.

“We can confirm that we have been subject to a cyber attack and are currently investigating the situation. There is a possibility of flight delays and cancellations,” a JAL spokesperson said.

The glitch caused the delay of nine domestic and several international flights, according to Kyodo.

Japan Airlines is the second largest airline in Japan after All Nippon Airways (ANA).

Nippon Airways, JAL’s main rival, said it was not affected by the cyber incident and services were operating as normal.

JAL is not the only major Japanese company to suffer cyber attacks in recent years.

In 2022, the Japanese government said a cyberattack forced a Toyota supplier to stop work at domestic plants for a day.

In June this year, video sharing site Niconico suspended its services due to a cyber attack.

Japan’s space agency JAXA said it suffered a cyber attack in 2023, but did not have access to sensitive information.

We remind you that on December 19, Ukraine experienced the largest cyber attack on state registers, which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice. It has been reported that the complete restoration of records will take approximately two weeks.
