This money is secured by income from Russian fixed assets, says Denis Shmygal.
The United States began paying money to Ukraine within the limits of a $20 billion loan. The first tranche reached $1 billion, Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal announced on Telegram on Tuesday, December 24.
“Ukraine received $1 billion from the United States, secured by income from frozen Russian assets,” he wrote.
The head of government thanked the American partners and the World Bank for an important step towards justice.
“We expect that all sovereign assets of Russia will be confiscated and used for the restoration of Ukraine,” Shmygal added.
As you know, in the summer the G7 countries promised to give Ukraine a loan of $50 billion. It will be paid with proceeds from Russia’s fixed assets.
As part of this initiative, the United States has allocated $20 billion. The money will come through the World Bank.
Ukraine can decide for itself where to spend this money. It is planned that almost half of the 50 billion will be allocated to provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
