Danone announced the start of the business transfer process in Russia in October 2022.
The former Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Chechnya Ruslan Alisultanov became the owner of the company that controls Danone’s assets in Russia. Russian media reported this on Monday, December 9.
At the beginning of December, Alisultanov acquired 100% of the company Unimilk (formerly Vamin-Tatarstan). It owns a 99% stake in Vamin R, the Health & Nutrition (H&N) management group that includes Danone’s assets. The remaining 1% of Vamin R belongs directly to Alisultanov.
H&N confirmed the ownership change, noting that Unimilk changed its name before the deal, but did not disclose details of the agreement.
Ruslan Alisultanov is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of H&N and has been working with the company since the summer of 2023. Previously, he served as Deputy Mayor of Grozny and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Chechnya.
In July 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree transferring Danone’s Russian assets to the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency. After that, the Health & Nutrition company was headed by 32-year-old Yakub Zakriev, nephew of Chechnya’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.
Danone announced the start of the process of transferring business to Russia in October 2022. In the past, the French manufacturer decided to exit the Russian market.
Let’s recall that in June the Carlsberg Group signed an agreement on the sale of Russian beers.
