The luxury division of the Chinese concern FAW Honhqi is supposed to assemble premium cars at the plant in Shushary.
Russian authorities have been forced to indefinitely postpone the launch of production of Aurus cars at the former Toyota plant near St. Petersburg due to the breakdown of negotiations with Chinese partners. This was reported by RosSMI.
According to sources, the luxury division of the Chinese concern FAW Honhqi should assemble premium cars at the plant in Shushary. In particular, the company should produce sedans of the H9 model under the Aurus brand.
However, the FAW “jumped into negotiations.” Aurus is under sanctions, and that could scare away a potential Chinese partner.
In the spring of 2024, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, promised to start production of the Aurus in Shushary before the end of 2024.
Toyota has been producing cars in Shushary since 2007, but after the start of the war in Ukraine, it suspended the plant’s operations, and in the fall of 2022 announced its decision to close the plant.
We remind you that the assets of the South Korean automaker Hyundai were purchased by the company from the Russian Federation Art-Financeregistered in 2023.
